There?s no longer any excuse for anyone to say they don?t understand the Texas Open Meetings Act. The new Open Meetings course is open to everyone, and it can be completed in one hour.
Training is online, and it runs on an iPad, desktop or laptop. While not exactly in the same league as many favorite online games or apps, it presents the information with statutory analysis for anyone ? especially elected and appointed public officials ? available in the convenience of their home or office and the ability to print a certificate of completion after viewing the course.
The multi-part course was developed by the V.G. Young Institute of County Government, a part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, in partnership with the Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta law firm, and approved by the Texas Office of the Attorney General.
All staff and organizations governed by TOMA are encouraged to complete the training, as well as legal and administrative staffers serving public bodies.
Participants are encouraged to verify acceptance of this one hour of continuing education credit with their respective associations.

The entire course is expected to take one hour and includes course handouts and reference materials. Participants can log off if necessary and continue with the course at their convenience.
The course fee is $10 per participant.
